On 30 June 2025, the technology that supports Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) is due to be switched off.
This means customers with an RTS meter could see a disruption to their service unless they upgrade to a Smart Meter.

What is the Radio Teleswitch Service and why is it ending?
The Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) uses a long-range radio signal to control certain electricity meters, allowing them to automatically switch between peak and off-peak rates. This service is mainly used with older multi-rate meters and was designed to support customers who rely on electricity for heating and hot water, such as those using storage heaters, panel heaters, or immersion heaters that typically charge up overnight.
RTS technology is reaching the end of its operational life. The equipment that sends out the radio signal can no longer be reliably maintained. As a result, the Radio Teleswitch Service is scheduled to close on 30 June 2025.
If you have an RTS meter, it will need to be upgraded to ensure your energy supply continues to work as expected.
